A special thank you to all of the Olomomo customers who chipped in and contributed to our spontaneous fundraising drive for an Aids Orphanage in Haiti in 2009. Olomomo contributed some cash for the orphanage and airline miles for the two orphanage founders to fly to the Domincan Republic where they were able to help transport much-needed supplies to the people of Jacmel - a region that was not receiving aid until Luke and Nate made it there. The Orphanage is now back in operation!

If you are with a charity... we get a request about once a week to donate products or to sponsor a charity or auction. Because we're a relatively new company, we can't handle all of the requests we get. I have a hard time saying no, so if you are looking for Olomomo to sponsor an event, at this point we can only provide custom coupons for your guests that are good for a healthy discount on our website.
Here are a few of the charities we have made a small contribution to since we've started. We hope to do a lot more proactive social enterprise with our business model in the future as we become more financially stable.

Olomomo has been working on creating products that are healthier for people than other flavored nuts on the market and have a low impact on the environment. It hasn't been super easy - we have been using biodegradable packaging for a year and a half and already had a lot of trouble with using biodegradable cellophane bags for our smaller sized products. Unfortunately, the bags broke too easily, and it turns out that producing cellophane isn't so good for the environment.
So - we switched to polypropylene bags for the time being. We're still working on a packaging solution that we're proud of, but for now, if you care about the packaging (like we do), the coffee bags we use for our 10 oz bags are still backyard compostable (biodegradable). We're having some trouble with those, though, too because they don't have a good moisture barrier and so the shelf-live is limited. Work in progress on that front...
We are proud to announce that we now offset all of the carbon used in our shipping with GreenShipping!
